• Conwy to be 'right at the heart' of the 2015 Wales Rally GB
Conwy Council has been a strong supporter of Wales Rally GB since 2010 and last year increased its commitment to become the official 'Host County'. It is an award-winning partnership that now has been extended for the 2015 WRC event to be staged in the legendary forests of north and mid Wales between 12-15 Novembe
Confirmation that Conwy has renewed its coveted 'Host County' status comes just weeks after its innovative and creative approach to hosting events such as Wales Rally GB was recognised nationally when presented with the Entrepreneurial Council of the Year accolade at the prestigious LGC Awards in London. Conwy's enthusiastic involvement in Wales Rally GB was also a major contributing factor in the rejuvenated WRC round winning the Best Event (Large) honour at the recent National Tourism Awards for Wales 2015.
"The far-reaching and whole-hearted support Wales Rally GB receives from Conwy Council is a major factor in the event's recent success story," confirmed Ben Taylor, managing director of Wales Rally GB. "Since the rally's move to a new base in north Wales, Conwy has been home to spectacular Ceremonial Starts and Finishes while fans have flooded into its famous forests to catch the top class competitive action. Although this year's route won't be confirmed until the end of May, we are delighted that Conwy - as the official 'Host County' - once again will be right at the heart of this world famous, world championship event."
"We're delighted to be the Host County again this year," says Sasha Davies, Strategic Director for Economy and Place at Conwy County Borough Council. "Our successful partnership with WRGB has been nationally recognised and we're excited to continue this valuable and rewarding relationship.
"Wales Rally GB provides an excellent opportunity to showcase Conwy County around the world; the Council has deliberately focused on events as a way of supporting the local community and the local economy - with an estimated return on investment of £32 for every £1 spent."
Plans for the 2015 Wales Rally GB (12-15 November) are already well advanced. Full details of the competitive route plus ticket details will be announced in the coming months.
